The good news is that Wikipedia’s blackout protest against SOPA is now over and the English variant of the online encyclopedia is accessible again. The news was all over the web yesterday. If you didn’t know about the Anti- SOPA protest, you must be living under a rock. So after shutting down the website for 24 hours, Wikipedia has come up with something new to persuade all those readers who were not able to access the site on 18th January and angrily tweeting about the Wikipedia’s Blackout protest.

Wikipedia has released its official app for Android operating system. Although there are already few apps available in the Android market that allows you to search and read Wikipedia articles on your Android phone. But the official Wikipedia application has some more advanced features in it. The interface of the app is quite simple. When you launch the app, it will open the featured article of the day with a search box at the top. Of course you’ll be needing an Internet connection for this app to work.
When you type in something into the search box, relevant results will appear as you type and you can select the one which you’re looking for. Just tap the menu button and you’ll be presented with some more options. There, you can hit the ‘Save Page’ to add the Wikipedia page to the ‘Read it later’ list, which can be found in the ‘Saved Pages’ folder. You can also share the article you’re reading using Android ‘Share’ function.
Also, you can read article in a different language by tapping the ‘Read In’ option and selecting your preferred language from the list. You can access your search history, and search for nearby articles on the map by hitting the ‘Nearby’ option, which will launch the map inside the app. You can change the font size by going through the settings in the ‘More’ option.
Once you’ve installed this app, you’ll be able to access all 20 million articles from the online encyclopedia on your mobile phone. Now you don’t need to open the mobile version of Wikipedia in your Android browser. Just launch this app and increase your knowledge level by reading Wiki-Articles. It’s a must have app for your Android device. The application is now available for download in the Android market and it’s absolutely free.
