As I said above, Kapil Sibal has not given any list of colleges/universities to which the tablet will be distributed. If you’re a student, ask your college management if Aakash Tablet will be provided to the students. If your college/university has been selected for the initial distribution of Aakash tablet, you can get it for just Rs 1750 from your college.

When will it be available to the selected colleges/universities?

The company promises that a retail version of the tablet will come up in November. Around 100,000 computer tablets will be made available by January 2012. If you’re not a student, you have to wait till January.

I’m not a Student. How can I get this tablet?

The tablet will be sold to general public with the name UbiSlate7. It’ll be available in market very soon. As of now, you can only book your tablet at the official webpage. Visit the tablet official website and fill the form on the right hand sidebar. As soon as the tablet is available in the market, one of their counsellors will contact you over the details you’ve provided while filling the form. I still don’t have any idea whether it will be available at local stores, just like other gadgets. Note that it’ll cost you around Rs 3000 if you buy the tablet online.

It’s quite a let down for many as it won’t have access to Android Market place. Although it will come with pre-installed apps. You can also download content from Government Sakshat portal.

    Applications Galore with Android 2.2:

    Educational software
    Over 150,000 apps!

But you have mentioned that “………. it won’t have access to Android Market place.” . Without access to Android Market place, how we can use 150,000 apps in Android tab. [This questioned arose while searching for apps that can be used from Government Sakshat Portal, as you have mentioned.]

I think you’re talking about Ubislate 7 that’ll be available in the commercial market for general public. As I heard, Aakash Tablet (Not Ubislate 7), which is aimed at the students won’t have Android Market and that puts thousands of applications out of a student’s reach.
