Yesterday, I posted 2 ways to get back old Facebook chat on this blog. The first way was to load the Facebook pop-out chat window into the Firefox sidebar and the second way was to use Rockmelt browser because RockMelt has an in-built Facebook app which allows you to chat with your Facebook friends even when you navigate to other pages.
Today, I found the third way which will help you to get the old Facebook chat. This is the simplest way to get rid of new chat sidebar which only shows you the list of people you chat with the most. Also, there is no way to see who’s online right now in the new Facebook chat. You’ll find many ways to get rid of new sidebar but I don’t think you’ll find any working solution easier than this one.
You just have to install an extension in your browser. The extension is named as ‘Facebook-Chat-Sidebar-Disabler’ that will solve the problem. Once extension installed, you will be able to see all your friends who are online at the moment on chat and also there is a scroll bar in the sidebar which you can scroll up and down to see all your online friends. No more offline friends will be shown on chat.

Once you’ve installed the extension in the browser of your choice, refresh the Facebook page or open it in a new tab, it will surely work for you.

Hi, I’ve installed that scipt in firefox. One problem with this is, If i go offline , then its not possible to come online without disabling the script. Can u give me any new solution??
There’s another script that I’ve found (http://mediamonstrosity.com/2011/07/19/get-old-facebook-chat-back/) that will get it back to how it was before and also doesn’t have an ad for the author like the other one on all the like buttons around the web, but I’ve only heard of 1 or 2 people that actually like the new chat sidebar. I hope they change it back to how it was because now I can’t really see who’s online without a lot more steps.

Here is the simplest solution to get rid of the new facebook chat and get back the old one. You only have to install the following Google Chrome extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/nokfbncddkbafjcjibflbldfkcaapelg

finally a script that actually works! thanks! it would be perfect if it also would show the different groups like the old chat.. so you can use a little switch right there to appear on or offline for those groups
